iPads in use
The iPad defines a new space for itself and paves the way for other Tablets
Where does the iPad fit in the technology product landscape? The iPad, at a cost of $500-$800 cannot replace netbooks at a cost of approx $200. The iPad can’t really replace a laptop either even though they are priced similarly, a laptop has an almost unlimited accessory set, full keyboards and can really do more than an iPad. So if they are not replacing laptops and/or netbooks then who is buying them? Millions of people in both the consumer sector and the business sector. The iPad is defining a new niche of portable content consumption devices. You can type an email and make notes and use apps but you really can’t create lots of content easily and efficiently (at least not yet!), but you can consume content really, really nicely.
They will show up all over the healthcare industry, being used for survey response, data collection in the field to support studies, as standard equipment for pharma sales people and possibly even in hospital settings. They will show up across industries as a sales tool for showing products and displaying catalog data in a dynamic and visually appealing format. They will be use for taking orders in the field, they will show up in the hands of service technicians and they will even show up in small business as mobile admin and/or tracking tool. These are just a small subset of the applications we have been working with clients to define and deploy.
